Eliminate submental fullness.
Kybella is an innovative, nonsurgical way to eliminate the double chin and dramatically improving the appearance and profile. As the first and only injectable approved to eliminate submental fullness, Kybella is a permanent solution to restore a youthful, contoured chin.
Submental fullness is a gathering of excess fat beneath the chin, commonly known as “double chin.” It can be something you’ve had your whole life due to genetics, or start to appear as you get older or if you gain weight.
When injected directly into the tissue under the chin, Kybella destroys the walls of fat cells. As this tissue slowly dissolves, and is safely metabolized by the body, and the tissue under the chin bounces back to its sculpted appearance.
What is Kybella?
Kybella is an nonsurgical injection treatment to reduce excess fat beneath the chin. Kybella’s injectable solution contains synthetic deoxycholic acid–a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into the fat beneath the chin, Kybella destroys fat cells, resulting in a noticeable reduction in fullness under the chin. Once destroyed, these cells can no longer store or accumulate fat, so further treatment is not expected once you reach your desired aesthetic goal.
How long is the procedure?
At each treatment, you will receive multiple small injections under your chin, and the injection process takes about 15 to 20 minutes. The exact number of injections will depend on the amount of fat you have under your chin and your desired profile.
How does Kybella work?
Kybella developed as an alternative to liposuction or surgery, using a synthetic version of deoxycholic acid—a salt found in the body that aids fat digestion—to destroy fat cells. In the digestive tract, deoxycholic acid breaks down fat by destroying the cell membrane. When injected into subcutaneous fat, this cytolytic drug does the same thing—in targeted locations. The dissolved fat is now cellular debris, and gets cleared into the lymphatic and circulatory systems by specialized immunologic cells. This happens gradually over the span of several weeks. As for the deoxycholic acid, it follows the same path; it gets metabolized and broken down, and then excreted as waste.
How much is each vial and how many vials will I need?
Each 2mg vial of Kybella contains 20mg of deoxycholic acid and is $650/vial. Depending upon your goals, your medical professional could recommend 1 or more vials to burn chin fat and acheive your desired results. Please schedule a consultation with one of our aesthetic professionals to determine an appropriate treatment plan.
How many units are used per treatment?
Treatment is tailored to each individual’s: desired goals (prevention vs. correction), how often they are treated (every 3-4 months vs. annually), how they are treated (full vs partial correction) and how deep the lines are.
What are the results?
Results are gradual and natural appearing. Immediately following the treatment, you may experience a slight burning sensation and localized swelling. The swelling and “heavy feeling” will continue throughout the next few days. Most patients report any noticeable swelling was gone after the first 3-4 days. The process is continuing to work and blast away fat over the next 4 months.
What should I expect after treatment and what is the downtime?
Your swelling will typically peak about 20 to 28 hours after your procedure, and will likely go away after 72 hours. On rare occasions, you can experience swelling for longer. Patients with large amounts of fat underneath their chin and sagging skin may experience more swelling.
Since swelling can be significant within 48 hours after your treatment, we recommend that our patients receive Kybella on a Friday. This way, you can recover in the privacy of your home.
In order to reduce swelling, it is recommended to:
- Receive small doses of Kybella across multiple treatments. The smaller your dose is, the less swelling you will experience. You may have to receive more treatments, but you will likely deal with less swelling.
- Don’t massage the treatment area after you receive Kybella. Touching the treatment area can lead to more swelling in some patients. It’s best to leave the area alone to ensure a speedy recovery.
- Take Arnica and Bromelain tablets before your treatment and several days after. These natural supplements will help to reduce discomfort and swelling.
How often should I get the procedure?
When injected into fat under the chin, Kybella causes the destruction of fat cells. Once destroyed, those cells cannot store or accumulate fat. After reaching your desired aesthetic, further treatment is not expected.
What do I get with the procedure?
Our trained medical professionals will provide a consultation, address any questions/concerns and formulate a treatment plan based on your desired outcomes. Once you and your medical professional agree on the treatment, Kybella will be administered into the target areas.
