The New Kid in Town.
The Plasma Pen by Louise Walsh International is the world’s leading Plasma application device- a noninvasive fibroblasting sublimation treatment, suitable for targeting lines and wrinkles, loose skin, stretch marks, skin tags, warts, moles and pigmentation.
As we age our dermal layer thins, less collagen is produced & these changes in the scaffolding of our skin cause it to wrinkle & sag and to lose laxity & texture. The Plasma Pen encourages skin tightening using a continuous direct energy source; we ionize nitrogen & oxygen in the air to create a plasma gas. During the procedure, tiny plasma flash is being discharged from the tip of the Plasma Pen handpiece. Results improve significantly over the coming months.
Plasma treatment and the technology/technique behind it has become one of the most talked about treatments in the beauty world for good reason. With the right device, a well trained and professionally equipped technician using the right techniques, the results can be stunning. It is an incredibly sought after next-generation procedure from consumers around the globe.
Plasma Pen Details.
What is Fibroblasting?
Fibroblasts are the most common cells of connective tissue in the body, and they are the only cells that can make Type III collagen. Type I & III collagen synthesis takes approximately 3 months. Type I and Type III collagen supports connective; therefore, decreasing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and increasing the elasticity, suppleness and hydration of our skin.
Most fibroblasts are inactive and are known as fibrocytes. Fibrocytes rarely undergo cell division and will not produce collagen, unless they are activated by a wound healing process or inflammatory response. The Plasma Pen does just that. Plasma Pen significantly tightens, lifts, resurfaces, rejuvenates and regenerates new skin.
How does the Plasma Pen work?
As we age our dermal layers thin and collagen production slows down, causing wrinkles, fine lines and loose, saggy skin. Our German made, CE Certified Plasma Pen handpiece converts electrical energy into an electrostatic energy (plasma), which is transmitted to the applicator tip (the probe) by impulse.
Plasma flash is achieved by ionising atmospheric gas, such as nitrogen and oxygen, to create a plasma gas. The arc of plasma gas is safe, highly controlled and sustained by our device’s unique fingertip control. The probe never touches or pierces the skin.
What are the contraindications?
Patients with infectious diseases or is immunocompromised (ie. AIDS, HSV, HIV, any sort of infection (bacterial, fungal or viral), on anti-inflammatory medications (ie. steroids) are not candidates for the Plasma Pen. Patients with cardiac pacemakers or other electrical implants cannot be treated.
Who are good candidates for Plasma Pen treatments and how should I prepare?
Good candidates are Fitzpatrick Skin Types I, II and III.
To prepare, patients must remove eyelash extensions and contact lenses prior to treatment. Patients are also advised to stay out of the sun, use SPF40, and not have any other procedures on or near the area to be treated (discontinue use of Topical Retin-A, Vitamin C Serum and no chemical peels prior to treatment).
Ideally patients should pretreat using SPF40 for 2 to 4 weeks prior to treatment, especially for higher Fitzpatrick.
How long is the treatment?
Dependent upon the area(s) we are treating, your initial visit may take up to an hour. Subsequent treatments may be shorter in duration and is dependent upon the number of areas being treated.
What ares can be treated with the Plasma Pen?

What can I expect for results?
You will see visible results after the first treatment, and results improve after subsequent treatments. Optimal results are seen approximately 3 months after last recommended treatment. Results can last up for 3 years.
Is the procedure painful?
Everyone has a different threshold for pain. We do numb the treatment area with a topical numbing agent for 20 minutes.
What is post-care and recovery time?
You will immediately see “tiny dots” in the treated skin area. The scabs will fall off within a week. Please refrain from picking or peeling at the scabs. You may be a little sore or swollen. You can ice the area, apply arnica cream to the treated are or take oral tylenol to ease the discomfort.
One may continue to use the Alastin Non-Invasive Procedure Kit and all other products, with the exception of retinol as it irritated the skin. We strongly encourage you to use the Nectar and Restorative Eye Cream. Apply sunscreen at least 15 minutes prior to exposure and reapply throughout the day.
How does Plasma Pen differ from other aesthetic treatments?
Unlike laser treatment, the interaction of our nitrogen plasma with tissue is non–chromophore dependent. This means it is not reliant on interacting with the parts of our molecules responsible for color. Instead, we deliver completely predictable and fully controlled energy to the skin’s architecture and avoid the excessive collateral thermal injury associated with ablative and chromophore dependent laser tissue interaction. With laser, the orientation of new collagen is typically parallel to the surface of the skin but the collagen fibres formed by plasma line up perpendicular to the skins surface and this is their normal and most optimal orientation.
In further contrast to lasers and ablative resurfacing, our treatment is completely uniform. It does not damage surrounding tissue. The skin remains fully intact immediately after our nitrogen plasma is delivered. There’s no thinning of the skin nor an open wound.
Plasma Pen injures tissue in a precise and predictable manner, compared to dermabrasion or chemabrasion. One does not need to worry about asymmetries or over-corrections. Most medi-aesthetic treatments target either the muscle or epidermal tissue only, whereas Plasma Pen treats both the epidermal and dermal tissue in combination. The results are natural, healthier and younger looking skin. Laser treatments, chemical peels and other treatments can often leave the skin thinner, lighter, pigmented and/or too taut.
